Students protest at DU law faculty over admit card denial; ABVP alleges 'bias'

ensions flared at Delhi University's Law Faculty on Tuesday after over 150 students were denied admit cards for upcoming exams due to low attendance, triggering protests by the students who disrupted an exam.

There was no immediate response available from the varsity.

The situation escalated late Monday night when a group of students allegedly broke into the examination department. By morning, they locked the examination centre, declaring, “If we can’t sit for the exam, no one will.” As a result, the 9:30 am exam was delayed by two hours. The university administration eventually intervened, broke the lock, and conducted the exam. Students without admit cards were not permitted to enter, sources said.

Covid-19: Karnataka records 36 positive cases

Karnataka recorded a total of 36 Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, pushing the state's active cases count to 100.

According to a bulletin issued by the health department, while the positivity rate in the last 24 hours is 9.44 per cent, total tests done in Karnataka in the last 24 hours is 381. This included 361 RTPCR tests.

Earlier in the day, Karnataka Medical Education Minister Sharan Prakash Patil said doctors and health workers have been instructed to wear masks.

Himachal engineering college principal suspended over sexual harassment charges

The director-cum-principal of Bandla Hydro Engineering College in Himachal Pradesh's Bilapsur district who was arrested on charges of sexual harassment has been placed under suspension, Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani said Tuesday.

Himanshu Monga (51) is accused of causing physical and mental abuse to female students and sending inappropriate calls and messages.

The principal was suspended after a committee constituted by the technical education department to probe allegations against him submitted its report, Dharmani said.

Delhi govt plans to raise SDRF, incident response system for disaster management

The Delhi government is planning to have an active 'Incident Response System' that will kick in during the time of a disaster even as there are also plans to raise an SDRF to tackle critical situations in the national capital, officials said on Tuesday.

According to a senior official, the government is working on developing a proposal for having an Incident Response System, which will comprise officials from different departments.

"Whenever a disaster happens, the steps include evacuation, transporting people to shelter homes, taking care of their food and health needs. The departments that are involved in this exercise more or less remain the same," the official said.

"With the Incident response System, we will have nodal officers marked for all kinds of situations, who in turn will have people under them," he added.

Through this system, there will be better coordination and the government will not be found wanting in case of a disaster.

In a push to revive Jammu and Kashmir's tourism after the horrific terror attack that killed 26 civilians, the J&K government led by chief minister Omar Abdullah held a special cabinet meeting in Pahalgam today.

This is the first time a cabinet meeting is taking place outside the traditional summer capital, Srinagar, or winter capital, Jammu, during this government's tenure.
