In a case bearing chilling similarities to the recent Meghalaya honeymoon murder, a 24-year-old woman in Bihar has been arrested for allegedly conspiring with her maternal uncle to murder her husband just 45 days after their wedding.
According to police, the victim, Priyanshu Kumar Singh—a farmer from Barwan in Aurangabad district—was shot dead on the night of June 24 while returning from Varanasi. What initially appeared to be a contract killing took a darker turn when police discovered the involvement of his wife, Gunja Kumari, in orchestrating the murder.
Aurangabad Superintendent of Police Ambrish Rahul said that Gunja was in a long-standing relationship with her maternal uncle, Jeevan Singh, the husband of her father’s sister. The two had allegedly been in a relationship for over 15 years. Under family pressure, Gunja married Priyanshu, but the relationship reportedly caused friction in her marital life.
Unable to continue the affair in secrecy, Gunja allegedly hatched a plot to eliminate her husband. Police said she coordinated the murder with Jeevan Singh, who hired contract killers with the help of two men from Garhwa district in Jharkhand. On the night of the murder, Priyanshu informed his wife of his whereabouts over the phone. She is accused of passing that information to the assailants, who fatally shot him.
Gunja was arrested on July 2 and has since confessed to her role in the crime. Two others have also been arrested for aiding in the murder, while Jeevan Singh remains absconding.
As per Indian Express report, police also revealed that Jeevan had previously interfered with other marriage proposals for Gunja, ultimately leading to her marriage with Priyanshu. The duo reportedly continued communication after her wedding, further straining the marriage.
