A violent altercation between two groups of students over alleged cheating during a matriculation exam left a Class 10 student shot dead and two others injured in Sasaram, Rohtas district of Bihar on Friday.
As reported by news agencies, the police officials stated that the two groups got engaged in a verbal fight over cheating in the exam hall, which later escalated and got violent and someone fired a shot.
The clash began on Wednesday with a physical confrontation, reigniting the following day and resulting in a gunfire. “A gunfight between students took place, one of the students received a bullet injury in the leg and another in the back. One of the students succumbed to injury during treatment," the police official was quoted as saying by PTI.
All three injured students were rushed to Narayan Medical College and Hospital.
The situation turned tense, after which the authorities deployed heavy police presence in the area. For now, the hospital has been turned into a makeshift fortress to prevent further escalation. Meanwhile, the local police have taken custody of the deceased student's body and launched an investigation into the incident, reported Business Standard.
Following the shooting, the victim's family members and local villagers staged a protest, demanding justice for the deceased student and threatening to block a major highway. Protesters briefly blocked the road, young men sitting in protest. However, police officials have

The incident occurred amid the ongoing Bihar School Examination Board Class X matriculation exams, which began on February 17 and are scheduled to run until February 25.
