Bengaluru traffic police on May 20 closed a section of Hosur Road — between Silk Board and Rupena Agrahara — from 9am to 11am due to flooding

"Due to heavy flooding, Hosur Road is temporarily closed between Silk Board and Rupena Agrahara. The elevated flyover is also closed. Commuters are advised to use alternate routes and avoid Hosur Road completely," the advisory stated.

Many vehicles were stuck in traffic on Hosur Road for hours, and frustrated commuters were seen stepping out of their vehicles onto the road. Later, Bengaluru traffic police said it reopened at 11am.

The 9.9 km-long elevated expressway from Central Silk Board Junction to Electronics City on Hosur Road, which opened in 2010, was designed to reduce travel time to Electronics City, home to major companies such as Infosys and Biocon.

Traffic police said rain has waterlogged the Ayyappa underpass near Madiwala and Central Silk Board, slowing traffic on Hosur Road in both directions, and urged motorists to take alternative routes.

Electronics City, spread across 903 acres on the Bengaluru-Hosur highway, is one of India’s largest electronics industrial parks and is home to companies such as Infosys, Wipro, Tech Mahindra, Siemens, and Tata Consultancy Services.

Bengaluru traffic police reported slow-moving traffic in several areas due to rain-induced waterlogging. Key affected stretches include Ibblur Junction, Kasturi Nagar, Hoodi Bridge, Goraguntepalya, RT Nagar, Queen’s Road, Silk Board, Jayadeva Hospital, Varthur, Cottonpet, Bilekahalli, Sarakki, Puttenahalli, and Mysuru Road Tollgate.
