In a relief for commuters on Bengaluru’s Electronics City Metro, BMRCL is likely to induct fourth Yellow Line train on September 10.

Sources in BMRCL told Moneycontrol that fourth trainset will be deployed after completing mainline tests.

“This will improve frequency from the existing 25 minutes (with three trains) to 19 minutes. We are also expecting the fifth train to be dispatched from Titagarh by September 19 and sixth in the last week of October,” a source said.

The first train timings have also been revised. From Monday to Saturday, the first revenue service will commence at 6am instead of 6:30am, while on Sunday, the first train will continue to start at 7am. The last train timings remain unchanged, with the final service from RV Road at 11:55pm and from Bommasandra at 10:42pm.

BMRCL Chief PRO BL Yeshwanth Chavan told Moneycontrol: “Yellow Line has a daily ridership of around 80,000, including interchange passengers. We are planning to induct fourth train this week, which will bring down the frequency to around 20 minutes,” he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 19-km Yellow Line, which connects RV Road and Bommasandra via Electronics City, on August 10.

Separately, Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya on September 1 urged to airfreight two trainsets’ worth of bogies from China to expedite operations on the Yellow Line. A bogie is the wheeled chassis or framework underneath a train coach or metro car.

In December 2019, CRRC Nanjing Puzhen Co. won the contract to supply 216 coaches in 173 weeks. Of these, 126 coaches (21 six-coach trains) are for the Purple and Green Lines, and 90 coaches (15 six-coach trains) are for the Yellow Line. CRRC partnered with Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd (TRSL) to manufacture trainsets in India in compliance with local production norms.
