Begusarai assembly election 2025: All about constituency, party-wise candidates, past winners and more

Bihar's Begusarai assembly seat is set to go to polls during the first phase of Bihar elections on November 6 along with 120 other assembly seats.

The constituency will witness a tough contest between BJP and Congress candidates. Prashant Kishor's Jan Suraaj party has also fielded its candidate on the seat.

Begusarai assembly election 2025: Constituency profile

Begusarai is famous as Bihar's industrial and financial hub and is the administrative headquarters of Begusarai district. Situated on the northern bank of the Ganga in the Mithila region, Begusarai has a rich history and cultural significance.

The BJP seems optimistic about retaining the seat, bolstered by Giriraj Singh’s lead in six of the seven Assembly segments during the 2024 Lok Sabah elections, including a 25,633-vote margin in Begusarai.

Begusarai assembly election 2025: Key candidates

The main contest is between sitting MLA Kundan Kumar of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Amita Bhushan of the Congress. Kumar had defeated Bhushan by around 5,000 votes in 2020. Adding intrigue is Jan Suraaj's debut candidate, Surendra Sahni, a former mukhjiya of Nima Chandpura panchayat.

Begusarai assembly election: Past winners

BJP's Kundan Kumar won the Begusarai assembly seat back in 2020. He defeated Congress' Amita Bhushan by around 5,000 votes. Kumar got 74,217 votes while Bhushan received 69,663 votes in the 2020 Bihar assembly elections.

Earlier, in the 2015 assembly elections, Amita Bhushan of INC emerged victorious with 83,521 votes, defeating BJP's Surendra Mehta, who received 66,990 votes.

The Election Commission has set November 14 as the date of results for the Begusarai constituency.
