Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met Bangladesh's Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus in Bangkok, their first meeting since the ouster of prime minister Sheikh Hasina in August last year.

The two leaders met on the sidelines of the Summit meeting of the leaders of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral and Technical Cooperation (BIMSTEC) grouping. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval were also present during the meeting.

At the meeting, Muhammad Yunus gifted PM Modi a framed photo. The picture in the frame has a backstory.

The photograph captures PM Modi presenting a gold medal to Yunus at the 102nd Indian Science Congress in Mumbai back in 2015.

This is the first meeting between the two leaders since Nobel laureate Yunus took charge of Bangladesh following the ouster of the Sheikh Hasina government in August last year.

The meeting also assumes significance amid Dhaka's growing closeness with Beijing, a development Delhi has been watching closely.
