Bengaluru City Police on May 23 arrested a 27-year-old man for secretly filming women on Namma Metro trains and uploading the videos on social media without their consent or knowledge.

Speaking to reporters, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Lokesh B Jagalsar said: “The accused is a 27-year-old man working in the accounts department of a private firm in Murugeshpalya. On his way to work, he would film women without their knowledge and upload the clips to the Instagram page. He has now been arrested and will face legal action."

"An Instagram page named ‘Bangalore Metro Chicks’ was uploading voyeuristic videos of women travelling on Bengaluru Metro, filmed without their consent or knowledge. A case was registered on May 20 at Banashankari Police Station, and an investigation was launched” he said.

Sources said the accused has been identified as Diganth, a native of Haveri in Karnataka, and was apprehended in the Peenya area of Bengaluru. Police are investigating the motive, whether he was being paid, and if he was acting alone or as part of a group.

The case sparked widespread outrage after an Instagram user discovered the account and shared it on X (formerly Twitter), calling for immediate action. The account, named Bangalore Metro Chicks (@metro_chicks), had uploaded 14 videos of women passengers filmed without consent. The Instagram account has since deleted the videos, and its associated Telegram channel has been deactivated.

While the comment sections on the videos were disabled, the clips featured on-screen texts such as "Finding beautiful girls on Namma Metro", and showed disturbing footage of women being followed and filmed without their knowledge. Following the initial post, several other users joined in, tagging authorities, citizen groups, and social media influencers to amplify the call for action. Reacting to the incident, Bengaluru Central MP PC Mohan condemned it as "a blatant violation of privacy and dignity — not just creepy but a serious crime."
