As Pakistan carries out naval war games in Arabian Sea, India issues 'firing' notifications

The Indian Navy issued as many as four ‘firing notifications’ for a series of major naval exercises in coastal area off Gujarat amid heightened tension with Pakistan. The warship alerts come at a time when Pakistan is also carrying out naval drills in the Arabian Sea.

The Indian Navy’s green notifications are for the region falling within India’s ‘Exclusive Economic Zone’. The area is just 85 nautical miles from the region where Pakistan is carrying out its wargames in anticipation of any retaliatory strike by India after the Pahalgam terror attacks. As per X user Damien Symon, who is known for sharing such data on the social media platforms, while India’s firing notifications are between April 30 and May 3, Pakistan issued firing alerts for April 30 to May 2nd period.

What is green notification?

In simple terms, a green notification is a public notice issued by the naval authorities about any planned live-fire exercise to naval movements of commercial vessel and aircraft in the region for a specified period to avoid any collateral damage.

What’s the situation in the Arabian Sea?

In the last three notifications issued, Pakistan didn’t launch any missiles. India is closely monitoring the situation. In recent days, the Indian Navy has carried out several anti-warship missile firings as part of the drill. Yesterday, in a cryptic post, the Indian Navy said, “No mission too distant, No Sea too vast.”

New agency ANI citing defence sources confirmed the deployment of the Indian Coast Guard warships in forward areas near the International Maritime boundary off the Gujarat coast.
