Amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan met Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi today. The meeting took place around 4 pm. News agency ANI posted short clip of Chauhan's arrival at Singh's residence.

The meeting comes five days after a group of terrorists killed 27 tourists in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22. Following the attack, India decided to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan as intel inputs showed Islamabad's role in the attack.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has repeatedly said that those who killed the innocent people will be brought to justice. After the critical CCS meeting on April 22 evening, New Delhi had announced several measures against its neighbours including revoking visas of all Pak nationals.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has asked all states to identify and deport all Pakistani nationals on urgent basis. Meanwhile, Pakistan has been violating the fragile ceasefire along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. In other border areas in Punjab and Rajasthan, the BSF has ramped up the surveillance.

In Jammu and Kashmir, security forces have launched a massive anti-terror operation following the April 22. Thousands of people with known records of terror activities have been detained. Houses of as many as nine terrorists have been razed in the Valley. In a related development, PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti has asked the Centre to exercise caution and clearly differentiate between ordinary civilians and terrorists. She claimed that apart from houses of terrorists, homes of innocent Kashmiris were also being razed.
