A Scorpio car with four to five occupants, that was trying to flee the scene following a roadside altercation in Jaipur, ran over a 35-year-old man and killed him on Saturday morning, a report by The Indian Express said.

Station House Officer Virendra Kureel from the Murlipura Police Station said that the deceased was identified as Chandrashekhar and was a native of Uttar Pradesh. He lived in a rented house in Murlipura and worked as a labourer in Jaipur, the officer confirmed, as per the report.

“Four to five youths in a Scorpio were heading towards Sikar Highway when their vehicle collided with a car near Khatushyamji temple on Road No. 5. After the collision, the youths got out of the Scorpio, pulled out sticks, and smashed the windows of the other car, leading to a scuffle with the driver,” SHO Kureel was quoted as saying.

Police said that a large crowd gathered on the spot after the accident and when the youth in the Scorpio tried running away, people stood in front of the car in order to stop them. However, the chaos caused Chandrashekhar to fall on the road. The men in the car saw that the situation was getting out of hand and tried speeding the vehicle to get out of the crowd. In this process, they ran over the victim and fled the scene soon after.

Chandrashekhar was reportedly rushed to Kanwatia Hospital, where the doctors declared him dead. This incident caused outrage amongst the locals in the area and the police had to intervene to restore peace.

SHO Kureel said that two people have been detained in the case and the police have also called the owner of the car. However, some people remain on the run and the police have assured that they will be caught soon.
