Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, on Tuesday, released the 21st installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme for farmers affected by floods and landslides in Jammu and Kashmir. The disbursement was made via video conferencing from Krishi Bhavan, New Delhi.
Under this installment, Rs 171 crore has been directly transferred to the bank accounts of over 8.55 lakh farmers, including more than 85,000 women beneficiaries. With this release, cumulative assistance under PM-KISAN to farmers in Jammu and Kashmir has reached Rs 4,052 crore.
Addressing the event, Chouhan said the Narendra Modi government is committed to standing “shoulder to shoulder” with farmers and citizens affected by natural calamities in the region. He noted that the advance release of the PM-KISAN installment is aimed at helping farmers meet their immediate financial needs.
The minister also highlighted additional relief measures, noting that the Rural Development Ministry has sanctioned over Rs 85 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY-Gramin) to reconstruct around 5,000 houses damaged by floods and landslides. The package includes financial aid for toilet construction and supplementary funds through the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
Chouhan further announced that workdays under MGNREGA will be increased from 100 to 150 days for households affected by the calamities, subject to the proposal submitted by the Jammu and Kashmir government, providing additional livelihood support to impacted families.
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh and Jammu and Kashmir Agriculture Minister Javed Ahmad Dar also participated in the virtual event, expressing gratitude to Chouhan for his timely intervention and proactive efforts in relief and rehabilitation operations across the state.
