Two undergraduate students at Ashoka University in Sonepat, Haryana, were found deceased in separate incidents late Friday night, several news agencies reported.

The first student, a 20-year-old from Telangana - who was pursuing his undergraduate degree from the university -  allegedly died by suicide after reportedly jumping from the 10th floor of a university building. Authorities discovered a handwritten note in his room, though its contents have not been disclosed. The second student, a 19-year-old from Bengaluru, was found unresponsive near the university's main gate. Despite immediate medical attention, he was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Police are conducting investigations in both cases, including recording statements from students and staff, and examining the personal, academic, and social backgrounds of the deceased. Autopsy reports are awaited to determine the exact causes of death, reported Hindustan Times.

The HT report quoting Sonipat deputy commissioner of police (crime) Narender Kadiyan said investigators recovered a purported suicide note from the room of the first student.

“The note does not provide specific details,” Kadiyan said. “We are not certain whether it is a case of suicide or murder. The post-mortem will give clarity on the cause of death."

Ashoka University Vice-Chancellor Somak Raychaudhury expressed profound sorrow over the incidents, stating that the university is fully cooperating with local authorities during the investigations. The institution has extended its deepest condolences to the families of the students during this difficult time.
