After being bowled out for 69 in their campaign opener, South Africa have bounced back emphatically with three consecutive wins. With this win, they move up to third in the standings, although their net run rate remains in the negative. Bangladesh, meanwhile, have now lost three games in a row, but they have certainly made their opponents work hard and have plenty of positives to build on. South Africa’s next assignment sees them travel to Colombo to face Sri Lanka on Friday, 17th October, while Bangladesh will prepare to take on Australia in Visakhapatnam on Thursday, 16th October. Up next in the 2025 Women’s World Cup, the action shifts to Colombo, where Sri Lanka will lock horns with New Zealand on Tuesday, 14th October. The first ball will be bowled at 9.30 am GMT, but as always, you can join us early for the build-up. Until then, take care and goodbye!

The victorious captain of South Africa, Laura Wolvaardt, is up for a chat. Says it got closer than they would have liked but feels glad to get two crucial points in the end. Shares that they tried to stay patient as much as they could, and also shares that slower bowlers were doing well and the plan was not to leave the stumps. Appreciates the way the batters of Bangladesh performed. She admits it was frustrating not to pick up wickets and credits Shorna Akter for applying herself well. She also acknowledges that they didn’t get the start they were hoping for but praises Kapp and Tryon for their efforts. She adds that the team tried to be patient and build partnerships but kept losing wickets at crucial stages. Also details that Rabeya Khan, in particular, was hard to pick, so they just tried to play her out. On winning close games, she mentions that it feels nice to at least cross the line, as she highlights that there have been many occasions when they have fallen short. Feels nice to see the middle order getting the job done. Expects that their top order will also fire as they need to have that confidence. On Klaas' cameo in the end, she points out that her lap shot was amazing to watch and will be talked about for a long time.

The captain of Bangladesh, Nigar Sultana Joty says she is immensely proud of how the team fought until the last ball. Shares that it is sad to see the girls crying in the dressing room, as they have given their everything. Mentions that the team is very young, emotional, and kept believing they could get the win. She explains that the plan was not to give wickets in the Powerplay, which is why a few changes were made at the top of the order, and feels that they were 10-15 runs short. States that Shorna Akter has a bright future and has a lot of potential. Joty encourages the team to be proud, keep their heads high, and continue doing the right things in the remaining three matches.

South Africa's Chloe Tryon is adjudged the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for her match-winning knock of 62 from 69 deliveries. She collects her emotions together and says that she is out of words. Reflects that they wanted to take the game deep. Says that she believed that De Klerk would do what she does best in the death overs. Feels happy for getting over the line. Points that they wanted to build a partnership and keep the scoreboard ticking. Also shares that they were waiting for the bad balls and states that they believed and backed themselves to chase 80 runs in the last 10 overs. Shares that they were nice and calm in the middle and ran really hard between the wickets. Ends by saying that they will enjoy this win before the big game in Colombo.

Time for the presentation ceremony...

Earlier, after opting to bat first, Bangladesh made a watchful start. Neither of the openers could convert their start, and at the halfway mark, they found themselves plodding along at 73/2. It all started to change with the arrival of Nigar Sultana Joty, who injected the much-needed urgency into the innings and stitched a valuable stand with Sharmin Akhter. Both fell in quick succession, but Shorna Akhter ensured the innings didn’t go off track. Her 35-ball 51, the fastest fifty for Bangladesh in Women’s ODIs, powered her side to 232 with 57 runs coming off the last 5 overs.

Kapp’s departure gave Bangladesh renewed belief, and they had a big chance but Tryon was dropped on 46. She eventually went on to score 62, and the over in which the catch was dropped went for 16 runs. Bangladesh had another similar chance in the penultimate over when Nadine De Klerk was dropped and she went on to take her side home with Masabata Klaas. Who knows, had one of those catches been taken, the result might have been very different. Looking back, after South Africa had lost five wickets, the Bangladeshi spinners began bowling a bit too short and did not do justice to the conditions or the skills they possess.

With the way they finished the innings, Bangladesh carried the momentum into their bowling effort. Tazmin Brits fell for a second consecutive duck, but the Asian side could not quite build on that scalp. Just when it looked like Laura Wolvaardt and Anneke Bosch were settling into a partnership, a mix-up led to Laura’s dismissal. That was the breakthrough Bangladesh needed, and they made sure to capitalise on it. The wobble saw the Proteas slip from 58/1 to 78/5, losing 4 wickets for just 20 runs. Chloe Tryon and Marizanne Kapp then came together to steady the rocking ship, compiling an 85-run partnership. They absorbed the pressure like a sponge early on, and what stood out in their stand was how they ran between the wickets, playing the ball with soft hands into the gaps while punishing the bad deliveries

Nadine De Klerk wins it for South Africa, once again! Vizag continues to deliver thrillers, and the Proteas keep finding ways to chase down totals. This marks their third successive win while chasing in this World Cup and the second game in a row where they found themselves in trouble but managed to get over the line. Bangladesh are left crestfallen. They fought tooth and nail just like they did against England, where they threatened to pull off an upset, and tonight too against South Africa, but it was not to be.

49.3SIX! NADINE DE KLERK FINISHES OFF IN STYLE! And for the second time in a row, she has helped her side to cross the winning line. Nadine De 'Klutch' as she is very fondly known in the dressing room, holds her nerves and does the job once again for the Proteas. Coming to the delivery, Nahida bowls a loosener as it is a full toss, on the leg stump line. Nadine De Klerk gets her bat under the ball and smokes it powerfully behind deep mid-wicket for a cracking six. Three back-to-back wins for the Proteas. Bangladesh Women, on the other hand, fought till the last ball, came so close to winning, but yet again, their fielding lapses cost them the game. Absolutely contrasting scenes in both camps and that is sport in a nutshell. Hugs and cheers in the South African dugout, and stunned silence in the Bangladeshi shed. SOUTH AFRICA WOMEN WIN BY 3 WICKETS!

49.2Very slow through the air, full and on middle. Nadine De Klerk is a bit early to play the slog sweep, and inside edges it onto the front pad and the ball rolls back to the bowler.

49.1FOUR! That should be the game for the Proteas! Very full, wide on off, turning away. Nadine De Klerk swings with all her might and loses her grip of the bottom hand, but manages to clear backward point for a boundary. 4 needed off 5 balls now.

Right then, 8 needed off the final over. The experienced Nahida Akter will bowl the final over. Her previous over went for 8. Can she defend 7 here?

48.6Slightly full in length, around off, this is chopped to the point fielder. Klaas looks for a single, but De Klerk sends her back and yet again, the fielder is a bit late to get on the ball.

48.5HIGH UP IN THE AIR AND DROPPED! My goodness! That was an absolute dolly. Full and around the off pole from Rabeya, Nadine De Klerk mistimes it up in the air, off the toe end. The ball has the elevation but not the distance and it goes straight down the throat of the long off fielder, but it is shelled by Shorna Akter. They cross. The players on the field, and even in the dressing room are absolutely stunned. Shorna just might have dropped the match for her side.

48.4Full and around off and middle. Worked down to long on for a single.

48.3Straight up in the air... lands safe! A dipping full toss, on the leg stump. Nadine De Klerk sits down on her knee and badly mistimes the slog sweep. But luckily for her, the ball lands between square leg and the converging deep mid-wicket fielder. The square leg fielder picks up and throws as the batters look for a second, but De Klerk sends her back. Joty collects the throw and breaks the stumps, but Klaas gets home just in time. They settle with a single.

48.2Very full, on middle. Masabata Klaas whips it to deep mid-wicket and gets another single. South Africa Women need 11 off 10 balls.

48.1Serves it full and on off. Nadine De Klerk slogs it along the ground to deep mid-wicket for a single.

South Africa needed 12 runs off 12 balls against India, and Nadine De Klerk finished the game in just 5 deliveries. Tonight, they need 13 from the last 12 balls. Rabeya Khan has been handed the penultimate over. Can she deliver a tight over?

47.6Slightly full and around off, Masabata Klaas drives inside out to the cover fielder.

47.5FOUR! That is a poor delivery and is punished rightly! Nahida slips a full toss, down leg. Masabata Klaas shuffles across and just helps it to the deep fine leg region and the ball races away into the fence. Nigar Sultana Joty won't be a happy captain at all. 13 needed off 13 balls now.

47.4Another single stolen! Nigar Sultana Joty is absolutely fuming at the fielder there. Fullish delivery, tossed around off, spinning away. Nadine De Klerk leans forward and taps it with soft hands towards backward point and pinches in a single before the throw comes in towards the keeper.

47.3Needed a direct hit to put Klaas under pressure! Back of a length, on the leg stump line. Masabata Klaas heaves it to mid on and steals a single as the fielder misses her shy at the bowling end.

47.2Shortish delivery, around off. Nadine De Klerk rocks back and punches it wide of mid off for a single.

47.1Full and outside off. Masabata Klaas smashes it over the leaping Nahida Akter. The ball rolls straight down the ground and is cut off by the long off fielder to her right for a single.

Nahida Akter (8-1-26-2) returns to the attack with South Africa needing 21 runs from 18 balls.

46.6Floats it full and on middle. Nadine De Klerk plants the front foot forward and looks to go inside out, but ends up defending it on the strip.

46.5A low full toss, sliding on the leg stump. Masabata Klaas gets low and slogs it to deep mid-wicket for a single.

46.4Length, around off, Klaas punches off the inner half of the bat to short cover.

46.3Very slow through the air, on a length, around off. Nadine De Klerk opens the bat face at the last second and dabs it fine, to the left of short third for a quick single.

46.2FOUR! Makes the most of the Free Hit, does Nadine De Klerk! Not that short from Khatun, on middle. Nadine De Klerk backs away, creates a lot of room and lofts it over the extra cover fielder for a boundary. 23 needed off 22 balls!

46.2De Klerk again shuffles across off and sweeps this full ball to short fine and denies the single. Oh, no! Fahima Khatun has overstepped. No Ball called and Free Hit to follow...

46.1FOUR! What a sensational hit! Fuller than a length, wide outside off. Nadine De Klerk shuffles far across and sweeps it fine, beating short fine leg to her right for a boundary.

Fahima Khatun (9-0-40-1) will bowl out now.

45.6Back of a length, on middle and leg. Masabata Klaas opens up and heaves it to wide mid on. The fielder from the ring runs and dives to her right, but the ball evades her and is mopped by the converging deep mid-wicket fielder. The batters do not run as De Klerk wants to be on strike for the next over. South Africa Women need 32 runs off the last 24 balls.

45.5Another nervy single! Back of a length, around off. Klerk dabs it to the short third region and pinches in a quick, but risky single.

45.4Had the throw hit, Klaas was a goner! Into the blockhole, Klaas squeezes it out to the cover fielder and skates through for a single. The cover fielder misses her shy at the bowler's end and that allows Klaas to get in.

45.3Full and on the fourth stump. Masabata Klaas smashes it hard, but straight to mid off.

45.2Spins in from outside off, on a length. Nadine De Klerk hangs deep and cuts it powerfully to deep point for a single.

45.1Around off, on a length. Nadine De Klerk steers it to short third. Masabata Klaas is halfway through for a single, but is sent back by De Klerk on a sharp call.

44.6Full and tossed up around off, Masabata Klaas blocks it out.

44.5OUT! CHLOE TRYON IS RUN OUT! South Africa Women lose another at a very crucial time and Bangladesh continue to believe. Short and spins away from off. Nadine De Klerk hangs back and dabs it with soft hands in front of the short third fielder and calls Chloe for a single. The fielder is quick to get onto the ball and shoots a flat, direct hit at the batting end, with Tryon just short of her crease. The third umpire is summoned to check and the replays confirm the same. Chloe Tryon departs for a well-fought 62 (69) and South Africa Women are 198/7. Masabata Klaas is the new batter.

Direct hit! Bangladesh do not look overly excited. But as it is now being checked on the big screen, they are jumping in joy. Chloe Tryon is short of her ground!

44.4Good length, outside off, dabbed to short third.

44.3JUST SHORT! Darts it on a length, but this stays low on the bounce and De Klerk ends up chipping it uppishly toward the off side, but luckily for her, the ball dips and lands safely to the left of short cover.

44.2Short and around off. Chloe Tryon punches it to the left of cover and steals a single. Good running!

Halt! Nahida Akter is in serious discomfort and the physio is out to have a look. Akter took the blow on her left leg but she is now fine to resume after receiving the treatment.

44.1Closer to the off pole, on a length, around off. Nadine De Klerk backs away and taps it to the widish cover fielder and puts pressure on the fielder as she skates through for a single. But, oh dear! De Klerk keeps running to slide her bat inside the crease as the throw comes in quick and flat toward the bowler’s end, but the fielder misses the target. In the chaos, she collides with Nahida Akter, and Nahida is writhing in pain.

24 runs in the last 2 overs have suddenly shifted the momentum back to the Proteas as they need just a touch above run a ball - 37 runs off 36 balls. Nahida Akter is back into the attack. She is 7-1-24-2 so far and replaces Mst Ritu Moni.

43.6FOUR! Gets it through! Shorter and on off, Chloe gets on top of the bounce and punches it between cover and point for a boundary. An over where Bangladesh could have seen the back of Tryon has ended up going for 16 runs.

43.5Low full toss, on middle, drilled to long on for one.

43.4Gives the ball a bit of air, full and on off, Tryon drives it to long on for a single.

43.3Short and on off, Tryon taps it off the back foot to cover.

43.2SIX! That will only rub salt into the wounds for Bangladesh! Tossed up by Khan, on off, Chloe picks up the length early and gets down on a knee. Nails the slog sweep over wide long on for a six.

43.1DROPPED and to make matters worse, it goes for a FOUR! Tossed up by Khan, full in length, outside off, Chloe gets down on a knee and goes for the slog sweep. Does not get the elevation and it is hit to the right of deep mid-wicket, where the substitute fielder, Sumaiya Akter moves to her right and gets there but the ball goes through her hands and trickles behind into the fence. With this boundary, Chloe gets to her FIFTY. So far, so good from Tryon but she will be keen to stay there till the end.

42.6Full and on off, Tryon plants her front foot across and flicks it in front of deep square leg. The batters think about the second but the fielder in the deep is quick to get rid of the ball. South Africa Women need 53 runs in 42 balls.

42.5This skids through, on a good length, outside off, Chloe rocks back to force it through the off side but is beaten on the outer edge.

42.5Wide! This slides down leg, full in length, Chloe stays inside the line and gets low to help it away but misses.

42.4Full and on off, Nadine De Klerk eases the drive to deep point for one more.

42.3Hurls it full, on off, Nadine De Klerk lunges and taps it to cover-point.

42.2On a length, on middle, flicked through mid-wicket for a single.

42.1FOUR! Streaky but they all count! Not the best of balls by Mst Ritu Moni, short and wide on off. This does not rise at all and Chloe swings with all her might. Gets an underedge that goes through the legs of the keeper, who is standing up to the stumps. It races away for a boundary, beating the chase of the short third fielder.

41.6Direct hit! Fired in by Fahima, on off, Tryon advances and digs it out in front of mid on. A slight hesitation before Chloe scampers to the other end. There is a direct hit at the bowling end but Tryon is home.

41.5Loopy delivery, outside off, Nadine De Klerk drives the full ball to deep cover for one.

41.4Short and near the tramline on off, Nadine De Klerk reaches out and guides it to the left of deep point for a brace.

41.3Shorter and outside off, powered away to extra cover.

41.2FOUR! Smart batting! Looped up, full and wide on off, de Klerk walks across her stumps and gets her hands through the ball to unleash the sweep. Hits it aerially but to the left of deep backward square leg for a boundary.

41.1Nicely tossed up, on a length, outside off, Nadine goes back to glide it away with an open bat face but misses.

40.6Short again, around off, Tryon slices it off the back foot to backward point. End of a successful over for Bangladesh. South Africa need 69 runs in 54 balls.

40.5Drags the length back and this is slower, Tryon stays back to tap it to cover.

40.4Tossed up, on off, Tryon drives it back to the bowler.

40.3Short and on off, Nadine punches it to deep point for a single to get underway.

Nadine De Klerk walks in at number 8. South Africa Women will be hoping for a similar kind of finish from her, just like the one she produced against India.

40.2OUT! CAUGHT! Nahida Akter breaks through on her return to the attack! Marizanne Kapp admonishes herself as she storms off the field. Tossed up by Nahida from around the wicket, full and on off. Kapp gets down on a knee and attempts to launch it down the ground. Ends up slicing it only as far as long off, where Shorna Akter runs a few steps in off the ropes and takes a catch close to her chest. Kapp let out a big grunt as soon as she played the shot. Marizanne falls for 56 (71). South Africa are 163/6.

40.1Short and around the off pole, Tryon backs away and punches it to deep point for a single.

39.6Full and on middle, spinning away. Chloe Tryon leans forward and taps it to the cover-point region and sets off for a single. Kapp is running at the danger end, but the throw is very wide towards the keeper, which allows enough time for Kapp to get home with the full-length dive.

39.5Short and outside off, Tryon punches it to short cover.

39.4A sharp leg break, on a length, outside off. Kapp punches it wide of cover-point for a single.

39.3FOUR! Innovative and mighty effective! Drops full and around middle and leg. Marizanne Kapp shuffles across and scoops it towards deep fine leg for a boundary.

39.2A bit of yes and no, but no harm done! Short of a length and outside off. Kapp pats it to the left of short third fielder but keeps her eyes on the ball, not realizing Tryon has already set off for a quick single. Tryon is halfway down the pitch, forcing a desperate dive at the bowler’s end, and she just about gets home safely as the throw is wide and loses its steam.

39.1SIX! Something had to give and Kapp accepts this gift with both hands! Shorna slips in a full toss below waist height. Marizanne Kapp picks it up and heaves it powerfully over wide long on for a cracking six. FIFTY FOR MARIZANNE KAPP! A gritty knock under a lot of pressure and she has fortified one end masterfully, using all her experience. But she knows the job is far from done and calmly walks back and prepares herself for the next ball.

38.6Leg break, full and on off. Chloe Tryon gets on the front foot to drive to cover, but gets a thick outside edge and the ball rolls behind to short third. Another quiet over. Just 3 runs from it. Rabeya Khan's figures are 8-0-27-1.

36.6Full and outside off, Kapp drives it along the ground to sweeper cover for a single.

36.5A direct hit, but no harm done. On the legs, Kapp clips it to short fine leg and wants to pinch in a single, but Chloe sends her back in time. Marizanne Kapp retreats as the fielder releases a flat direct hit to the striker's end, but Kapp plonks her bat inside the crease in time.

36.4Tryon turns this full ball to deep mid-wicket for a single.

34.1FOUR! Welcome to the attack, says Kapp! Slides down leg, on a fuller length. Marizanne Kapp plants the back knee on the pitch and paddles it to the long leg fence for a boundary. South Africa Women need under three digits now.

DRINKS BREAK! South Africa will be breathing a bit easier now, courtesy of this partnership between Chloe Tryon and Marizanne Kapp. It has brought much-needed stability after that chaotic phase where they lost 4 wickets for just 20 runs. Bangladesh need to build pressure through dot balls, just as Mst Ritu Moni did in the previous over. After having South Africa reeling at 78 for 5, their spinners have since been a touch too short for this surface. They need to strike soon, as the Proteas still have Nadine de Klerk waiting in the wings and she has already shown her match-winning prowess against India. A rope is being run around the outfield, and the Super Sopper is in operation as dew has started to settle in. This will only make it more difficult for the spinners to get a proper grip on the ball. Sobhana Mostary to bowl after the break.

33.6Touch full and around off, Chloe Tryon gets on the front foot and drives it gently back to the bowler. MAIDEN OVER FROM RITU MONI!

31.5Fractionally full and on off. Marizanne Kapp shuffles to the off side and pulls it to deep square leg for a single.

31.4Sharp turn from middle, on a length. Marizanne Kapp gets across by hanging deep in the crease and tucks it with soft hands through mid-wicket for a couple of runs, as the throw from the deep is way too wide towards the bowling end. Nigar Sultana Joty is quite livid with that ordinary throw.

31.3Drags the length again, around off. Tryon punches it down to long off for a single.

31.2Short and on middle. Chloe Tryon waits back and whips it across to deep mid-wicket for a couple of runs as Sumaiya Akter, the substitute fielder, from deep square leg, cuts it off to her left.

30.5Leg break, on a length, at off. Chloe Tryon backs away and knocks it to cover.

30.4A googly, full and on off. Marizanne Kapp gets across and sweeps it to backward square leg for a single.

29.1Full and a bit of turn, around off, Kapp pushes it to the left of cover for a single.

A halt in play as the Bangladeshi skipper, Nigar Sultana Joty, is looking uncomfortable and is flat on the ground. The physio is out and is administering a massage on her back, due to a possible spasm. Meanwhile, the Proteas batters help themselves with some fluids as well. Joty eventually gets up on her feet and we are good to continue.

28.6Sliding on with the arm from around the wicket, full and on off, Tryon leans ahead and defends with her bat out in front of the front pad.

28.5Pulls the length back, on off, Kapp eases it off the back foot in front of point for a run.

DRINKS BREAK! What a remarkable turnaround in just three balls. But now, both set batters have followed each other back to the pavilion, and Bangladesh have their tails up. With no Sune Luus in the side for tonight’s game, Marizanne Kapp has added responsibility on her shoulders to anchor the chase. Kapp joins Annerie Dercksen out in the middle.
