Madurai,Feb 7(PTI):Madras High Court bench today appointe Advocate Commissioners to inspect the Flower Market here and submit a detailed report on the location of flower shops, area earmarked for disposal of garbage, public amenities and convenience for transformers and generators. Justice K K Sasidharan directed the Corporation Commissioner to depute a superior officer and a survey team to assist the two commissioners to survey the land and prepare a detailed report. The secretary of Madurai Marketing Committee should also be present during the inspection, he said. The Judge was hearing a Petition by president of Madurai Flower Merchants and Commission Agents Association and other members, who contended there was no systematic removal of Garbage. Even garbage bins provided inside the Market complex were not sufficient and there was frequent dumping in a canal between the complex building and a road. While disposing garbage itself was a problem as there was no adequate space, MMC had resolved to construct additional shops in the area earmarked for dumping garbage. This was arbitrary, and should be stopped, they said. The MMC Secretary said the decision to construct additional shops was taken to relocate 15 licensed merchants due to shifting the flower market to the paddy complex. It was not possible to dump garbage in the present location on account of proximity to high tension wire, he said. PTI SSN APR APR
