Technicolor Games, the gaming unit of the crisis-hit visual effects and animation giant Technicolor Group, has been acquired by TransPerfect, a US-based company that offers language and artificial intelligence solutions to global businesses, for an undisclosed amount.
The acquisition comes as Paris headquartered Technicolor Group is facing a severe financial crisis and shutting down operations in the United States, the United Kingdom, and India. More than 10,000 employees, including more than 2,000 in India, have been affected by the shutdown.
Technicolor Games has more than 400 creative artists who specialise in concept art, 3D art, animation, VFX, and cinematics across offices in Bengaluru, London, San Francisco, and Montreal. The studio works with prominent gaming firms such as Electronic Arts, Capcom, and 2K on titles such as EA Sports FC 25, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, Hogwarts Legacy, and Street Fighter 6.
Following the acquisition, TransPerfect said it would bring back all Technicolor Games India employees to its Bengaluru office, the company's largest facility, to ensure continuity of business for all clients.
Technicolor Games president Andy Emery and its VP of Global Business Development Eric Williams will continue to lead the company, which will now operate as a division of TransPerfect Gaming. Both Emery and Williams will also join TransPerfect's senior leadership team.
"With the support of clients, employees, and industry partners, this acquisition ensures that the legacy of Technicolor Games continues, reinforcing its reputation as a premier provider of art, animation, and VFX services to the global video game industry," Emery said in a statement.
TransPerfect Gaming offers game developers and brands a range of video game production services, from initial concept to post-launch. This includes player support, audio services, art design, quality assurance, localisation, community management, marketing, and testing. Among its clients include Microsoft Xbox, Blizzard Entertainment, Epic Games, Tripwire Interactive, Netmarble, and Tilting Point.
"Technicolor is a renowned brand and this division has an impressive track record of producing stunning creative work," Phil Shawe, TransPerfect president and co-CEO, said in a statement.
TransPerfect acquired Ireland-based video games services provider MoGi Group in September 2019. The firm has offices in over 140 cities worldwide, including Chennai, Delhi-NCR, and Pune.
