Arief Mohamad, the vice president (VP) and head of Flipkart Fashion, is set to leave the company after spending nine years with the e-commerce giant, people aware of the developments told Moneycontrol. Myntra CEO Nandita Sinha will be assigned additional charge and lead both teams as she takes on a larger role within the Walmart-owned company.

The changes come at a time there is increased competition in the lucrative online fashion business, where Flipkart competes with players such as Amazon, Meesho, Nykaa, Ajio, and Tata Cliq, among several others. The additional duties mean that Sinha will strengthen the company's hold on the fashion industry in India, where Walmart dominates with about a 50 percent market share.

Flipkart Fashion and Myntra will retain their independent structure, even though they will be led by the same person for now. While Myntra caters to premium shoppers, Flipkart Fashion is targeted towards value buyers.

Flipkart and Myntra are both owned by US retailer Walmart.

Flipkart confirmed the developments to Moneycontrol. "The fashion landscape is continuously evolving and we are committed to enhance the value proposition for our fashion-forward customers. Nandita Sinha, CEO, Myntra will take additional responsibility of leading Flipkart Fashion alongside her current role at Myntra," a Flipkart Group spokesperson said.

"A seasoned leader and group veteran, she has been instrumental in driving the growth of numerous businesses within the Flipkart ecosystem. Under her leadership, Myntra has solidified its position in the fashion industry, while also paving its path for the next phase of growth. Flipkart Fashion and Myntra will continue to operate independently under Nandita’s leadership as she guides the broader strategic direction for Fashion," the spokesperson added.

Mohamad had joined Flipkart back in 2015 as head of kids, beauty, women accessories and footwear and has headed several divisions within the company through the years. He was made the head of Flipkart Fashion only in November 2023.

Sinha, on the other hand, was promoted from Flipkart to go on and lead Myntra as its CEO in January 2022. She's been with the group for over a decade and enjoys the confidence of several top leaders within the company.

With this change, Flipkart now goes back to an arrangement it has had in place previously. In 2019, even Rishi Vasudev, the then head of fashion at Myntra-Jabong would oversee both the Fashion verticals.
