Dream11 parent open sources its tech engine with Dream Horizon

Dream Horizon will offer a range of functionalities, from tools that help developers build, test and deploy faster, to core building blocks for application development and systems to developers

November 26, 2025 / 17:29 IST

Dream Sports, the parent company of the fantasy sports platform Dream11, is open sourcing the tech engine it has developed over a decade to startups and developers in India and around the world with the launch of Dream Horizon.

Dream Horizon will be part of Dream Sports’ newly set up software as a service (SaaS) business Horizon, headed by Amit Garde, currently the senior vice president of engineering at Dream11, as CEO. It will be unveiled at MumbaiHacks 2025, an artificial intelligence (AI) hackathon which will be held on November 28 and 29 in Mumbai.

The move comes as Dream Sports seeks to diversify its offerings after the recent online gaming law disrupted its core business model.

“Open-source software forms the backbone of global innovation, and the Indian startup ecosystem relies heavily on software built by the open source community. With Dream Horizon, we are contributing back to the very community that helped us to successfully operate at the scale that we did,” Garde said.

What will Dream Horizon offer?

Dream Horizon will offer a range of functionalities, from tools that help developers build, test, and deploy faster, to core building blocks for application development and systems which allow those applications to run and be managed at scale, the company said.

Over the past decade, Dream11 has grown sharply, serving more than 300 million users and managing peak traffic of 16 million concurrent users and 100,000 transactions a second, the company said, adding the scale is comparable to some of the world’s largest real-time digital platforms.

The initiative will support startups and small businesses across a wide range of sectors, including e-commerce, fintech, and healthtech, Dream Sports said.

“All software applications require some foundational capabilities. We are making these building blocks available for individual developers, startups and MSMEs to use, so they can focus on solving for their core product proposition," Garde said.

How did Dream11's open-source journey begin?

Dream11 said it began its open source journey with early contributions to projects such as React Native, Kong and Vert.x.

With Dream Horizon, it now hopes to advance India’s open-source ecosystem and strengthen local technological capabilities. The initiative also supports India’s efforts to build self reliant digital capabilities for its vision of digital sovereignty, it added.

Earlier this month, Zerodha CTO Kailash Nadh told Moneycontrol that open-source capability is central to national technology resilience. He had called for India to consider setting up a sovereign FOSS fund, administered with community involvement, to support foundational open-source infrastructure.

IPO-bound e-commerce platform Meesho also open-sourced key parts of its internal machine learning platform BharatMLStack in July 2025.
