SEBI on August 22 announced that it has promoted three chief general managers to the position of executive directors at the market regulator.
Avneesh Pandey took charge as the executive director, and will handle the Information Technology Department (ITD) at SEBI. "He has about three decades of securities market regulatory experience in covering vide range of IT initiatives including business process innovation, big data analytics, SupTech, Cyber security, IT audits and inspection etc," the market regulator said.
Pandey, who has an MPhil in technology policy from the University of Cambridge and has been an ADB-Japan scholar for management studies at Asian Institute of Management in Philippines, sees himself as a "technology strategist, process innovator and cyber security evangelist", SEBI said.
Chandrakant Purao took charge as the executive director to handle the Corporation Finance Investigation Department, Recovery and Refund Department and Internal Investigation Department of SEBI.
Before his latest promotion, Purao handled various departments like Integrated Surveillance Department, Corporation Finance Investigation Department, Market Regulation Department, Investment Management Department and Corporation Finance Department. He had joined the market regulator in 1996, and has headed the Hyderabad office of the board.
Purao holds an engineering degree and a post graduate masters degree in management studies from the University of Mumbai. "He has also been a member of various domestic policy making and advisory committees as well as international committees, dealing with areas of mutual interest and cooperation with International Regulators," SEBI said.
Amit Pradhan took charge as an executive director to handle Legal Affairs Department (Vertical 1) and Prosecution & Settlement Department (PSD). Earlier, he served as the chief general manager and regional director at SEBI, heading the northern regional office in New Delhi.
Pradhan, who is a science graduate, acquired a degree in law in 1989 from Rohilkhand University. He has nearly 28 years of experience in legal and regulatory affairs, enforcement, policy development at SEBI, IBBI and CCI.
"Within SEBI, he has also led the Legal Affairs Department at the SEBI Head Office in Mumbai, where he provided legal guidance on policy matters, played an active role in regulation drafting, and coordinated litigation management across various courts/tribunals. He has also handled quasi-judicial work as full time Designated Authority & Adjudicating Officer," SEBI said.
In another statement, SEBI advised investors to exercise caution while dealing with social media messages, WhatsApp groups, Telegram channels, or apps claiming to offer stock market access through Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) or Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs).
