The Centre has received investment proposals worth Rs 7,500 crore to Rs 8,000 crore under the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), aimed at boosting domestic production of key electronic components and assembly infrastructure, a Business Standard report said on Tuesday.

According to a senior government official cited by the business daily, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has received close to 100 applications from Indian and international companies looking to set up manufacturing units across the country.

“We’ve begun evaluating the applications, and starting late August or early September, approvals will be issued in batches,” the official said. A project management agency is also being finalised to support the implementation of the scheme.

The ECMS is a key part of India’s broader strategy to strengthen its electronics manufacturing capabilities, reduce import dependence, and position itself as a global hub for electronics production.

The Rs 22,911 crore scheme will run for a period of six years. The application window for the ECMS opened on May 1. The Business Standard report says that the process of application is ongoing. The official approvals for the investment plans will commence from August or early September, the report added.

For the companies applying for the scheme, it is mandatory to specify the exact number of jobs their plans will generate in India, the report further added.
