NCLT Mumbai employees go on strike amid salary payment issues: Sources

National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) Mumbai employees went on strike from January 14 due to salary payment issues, sources told Moneycontrol.

The court has not been functioning due to the strike, the sources said, adding that contractual and outsourced employees' salaries are not being paid.

NCLT Mumbai has 70 outsourced employees and 86 contractual employees.

In a memorandum, the employees flagged "irregular/ delayed payment of salaries to all contractual and outsourced staff of National Company Law Tribunal, Mumbai Bench since the last six months". The employees also flagged no revision in salaries since inception of NCLT in 2016.

In a letter, dated January 9, to the registrar of NCLT Mumbai, the employees said they are "facing extreme hardship due to not receiving our salaries on time". The staff stated that the registrar has been taking the stand of scarcity of funds since the beginning of FY25.

"This has been verbally acknowledged by your good office and members, however this persistent issue has not been resolved till date and your response over scarcity of funds is continued since the beginning of this financial year, having no permanent solutions," the employees said.

"It is absolutely pathetic that MCA has lent a deaf ear to the basic necessities of outsourced and contractual employees to compel them to face the hardships since last three months, it becomes routine that salaries not get cleared on time for wants of funds We have not received our salary for the month of Dec 2024, every time we approach your good office we get reply that we have not received the funds from MCA on time for releasing the salaries till date due to which we all are facing hardships and our landlords are threatening us to vacate properties and even our EMIs are lapsing and recovery agents are chasing us and penalties are being levied on us by the EMI companies, we don’t have money to pay our children’s school fees, purchase household groceries and even medication for our parents who are totally dependent on us, being the sole earning source of income of the family we are under immense pressure," the letter further stated.
