Shares of Sequent Scientific soared over 9 percent in early trade on September 15 after the company's board approved the sale of its API (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient) facility in Thane. At 10.20 am, shares of Sequent Scientific were trading 7.2 percent higher at Rs 94.10 on the National Stock Exchange. The steep gains were also backed by strong volumes as 25 lakh shares changed hands on the bourses, significantly higher than the one-month daily traded average of 12 lakh shares.

Shares of the company are also up nearly 28 percent in the past three months. The strong gains in the period came despite the company's poor performance in the April-June quarter.

The financials

The animal health company's net loss widened on year to Rs 34.7 crore in the April-June period from Rs 15.3 crore recorded in the same quarter of the previous fiscal.

Revenue from operations also slipped 2.3 percent to Rs 333.2 crore in the June quarter of FY24 compared to Rs 341.3 crore in the year-ago period.

The company had attributed the weak sales in the June quarter to transitionary connectivity challenges as it undertook network optimisation during the quarter. However, it expects acceleration in revenues and margins during the year ahead.

The company has been focusing on accelerating its new product pipelines and scaling up on research and development facilities. The company has a total of 27 US Veterinary Master File filings, 12 Certification of Suitability approvals, and a portfolio of 35 commercial APIs.

Moreover, Sequent Scientific is also working on geographical expansion as well as product expansion to increase its market share and drive demand.​​
