The shares of Macrotech Developers jumped over 8 percent on April 15 after the Lodha brothers announced that they are amicable settling their dispute over the use of their titular brand.
Both Abhishek and Abhinandan Lodbha will not have any rights to each other's businesses, and both parties will 'communicate widely' that the two entities are not linked to each other.
The rally in Macrotech shares helped the BSE Realty gain nearly 6 percent, with all constituents in the green, making it the top sectoral index in trade.
Abhishek Lodha, who runs Macrotech Developers, had filed a brand infringement suit in January 2025 against his brother Abhinandan Lodha and his plotted development firm House of Abhinandan Lodha (HoABL). Abhishek had accused his brother of using the 'Lodha' brand name for projects in Goa, Ayodhya, and elsewhere. Macrotech sought to stop HoABL from using the brand name and also asked for Rs 5,000 crore in damages.
HoABL denied that it had used the brand 'Lodha' for its projects, and the examples cited by Macrotech were used by third parties like brokers.
The parties then underwent mediation under retired Justice R V Raveendran, who was appointed by the Bombay High Court. According to Abhishek and Abhinandan Lodha's spokespersons, both brothers have now agreed that Macrotech Developers is the sole owner of the brands 'Lodha' and 'Lodha Group', while Abhinandan's HoABL is the owner of the brand House of Abhinandan Lodha.
Abhishek and Abhinandan Lodha, sons of real estate magnate Mangal Prabhat Lodha, fell out after a number of differences regarding finances and the direction of the business when both worked together at Macrotech (then Lodha Group). Abhinandan, who looked after sales and finances at the real estate major, exited the company in 2015. The two brothers signed a family settlement in 2017, with Abhishek remaining in charge of the Lodha Group, and Abhinandan leaving with cash and some real estate to start his own ventures, including what is now the House of Abhinandan Lodha.
After the brand infringement case was filed in 2025, the mother of the sparring real estate scions wrote to both her sons, asking them to resolve their differences and abide by the 2017 settlement agreement.
"Your father (Mangal Prabhat Lodha, the BJP politician and Lodha Group founder) and I confirm that both of you have no right in any form in the other brother's business or assets or shareholding," the letter from Manju Lodha states. She further "directed" the brothers to "not say anything wrong" about each other, and not to "fight" with each other.
