Exchanges BSE and NSE will discuss keeping stock markets open on Saturday, February 1 for Union Budget, reported CNBC-TV18 citing sources on December 18.

Exchanges would like to give investors opportunity to trade on an important day like Budget, sources told the channel.

It may be recalled that markets were kept open on Saturday, February 1, 2020 for Budget announcements and also on February 28 (Saturday), 2015.

Meanwhile, ET Now reported, citing sources, that NSE and BSE will evaluate operational needs to enable trading on Budget day and that the trading hours are likely to align with regular market timings on February 1.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present her eighth consecutive Union Budget next year.

The Department of Economic Affairs in the finance ministry carries out the mammoth exercise of preparing the documents. The Union Budget, which is an annual exercise, shows the health of the government’s finances in terms of estimated expenditures and earnings. It is also a document that showcases new financial schemes and plans that the Centre wishes to introduce in the upcoming fiscal year.
