Nifty and the Sensex continued to trade in the negative territory but has erased some of the morning loses in this Thursday afternoon session with the Nifty50 down 30 points, trading at 10,936 while the Sensex shed 98 points and was trading at 36,386.
PSU banks were down with loses from Canara Bank, State Bank of India and Oriental Bank of Commerce while on the other hand, Central Bank of India jumped 4 percent and Bank of India and Vijaya Bank traded in the green.
From the pharma space, the top gainers were GSK Pharma, Sun Pharma, Lupin and Piramal Enterprises.
Selective midcap stocks were buzzing in this afternoon session led by Ajanta Pharma, Apollo Hospitals, Balkrishna Industries, Cummins India, Dewan Housing Finance, Federal Bank, Jubilant Food, M&M Financial, MRPL, PFC, REC and Torrent Pharma.
Metals continued to underperform dragged by Nalco which fell 4 percent followed by Hindalco Industries and Hindustan Zinc which shed 2 percent each. The other losers were JSW Steel, SAIL, MOIL and Vedanta.
The top gainers from NSE include Indiabulls Housing Finance, YES Bank, HPCL, Asian Paints and BPCL while the top losers included Grasim Industries, Vedanta, Hindalco Industries, Bharti Airtel and GAIL India.
The most active stocks were Indiabulls Housing Finance, YES Bank, Axis Bank, Infosys and BEML.
Muthoot Finance, Commercial Engineers & Body Builders, GSS Infotech, Marico and PVR have hit new 52-week high on NSE in this afternoon session.
31 stocks have hit new 52-week low including names like Adhunik Metaliks, GTL Infrastructure, Rolta India and SRS among others.
The breadth of the market favoured the declines with 817 stocks advancing and 873 declining while 371 remained unchanged. On the BSE, 1189 stocks advanced, 1259 declined and 171 remained unchanged.
