Shares of Bharat Dynamics jumped over 8 percent to hit an intraday high of Rs 1,227.9 on January 16 after the defence manufacturer bagged an order worth Rs 2,960 crore from the Ministry of Defence.
In an exchange filing released on January 16, the company announced that it has signed a contract worth Rs 2,960 crore with the ministry for the supply of Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missiles (MRSAM) for the Indian Navy. In an press release, the ministry said that the contract was signed in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh in New Delhi.
"With the emphasis on 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat', the missiles would be supplied by BDL under 'Buy (Indian)' category with largely indigenous content. The contract would generate employment of approx. 3.5 lakh mandays in the defence industry, including various MSMEs," the press release read.
"The contract marks a critical milestone in the ongoing efforts to bolster India's defence capabilities and indigenise advanced military technology," it added.
In another exchange filing released on January 16, Bharat Dynamics announced that the Defence Ministry has conveyed approval for the appointment of DV Srinivas as Director (Technical) of the company's board. Notably, Srinivas took charge on September 20, 2024.
After hitting an intraday high of Rs 1,227.9, the shares pared some gains and were trading at Rs 1,194.70 (5.39% higher) at around 1.56 pm.
The shares are trading nearly 54 percent higher than its 52-week-low level of Rs 776.08 at which they had last traded on March 14. Bharat Dynamics shares are still, however, down over 33 percent from their 52-week-high level of Rs 1,794.7, recorded on July 5 on the BSE. The shares have so far surged around 37 percent in the past one year.
