Nifty ends in green; midcaps, smallcaps glitter

The Indian markets ended on a positive note echoing strong cues from the global markets. The action was more stock specific today with many midcaps and smallcaps stocks locking smart gains.

The Indian markets ended on a positive note echoing strong cues from the global markets. The action was more stock specific today with many midcaps and smallcaps stocks locking smart gains.


The Sensex shut shop at 18814.48 up 51.68 points or 0.28% and the Nifty closed at 5651.65 up 24.45 points or 0.43%. About 1803 shares advanced, 1094 shares declined, and 760 shares remain unchanged.


Reliance Infra, DLF, Reliance Communications, Hindalco, Jaiprakash Associates, PNB and Kotak Mahindra were up in the range of 3-7%. ITC, NTPC, Tata Steel, Larsen and Hero Honda were major laggards today.


Bulls managed to end the markets in green on back of heavy buying in rate sensitive stocks. BSE Realty, banks and auto index were up in the range of 1-3%. BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices clocked 0.92% and 1.19% gains respectively.

Midcap gainers: Anant Raj Industries, Peninsula Land, Rei Agro, Tata Global Beverages and Shree Renuka were up 6-13%.


Midcap losers: Jubilant FoodWorks, Shree Global, Sterling International, Sunteck Realty and Godfrey Phillip were down 4-5%.


Smallcap gainers: Warren Tea, Steel Strips Wheels, VIP Industries, Sterling Holiday and Man Infra were up 8-20%.


Smallcap losers: aurionPro Solutions, Binny, Newtime Infra, Karma Industries and Money Matters were down 4-5%.


Global Cues: Asian stocks rose on Monday as technology and auto exporters surged on hopes for higher global demand, following strong US manufacturing data in June. Sector Check: BSE realty index surged nearly 4%. Stocks like Anant Raj Ind, Peninsula Land, Sobha Developer, DLF and Orbit Corporation surged 4-14%.


In the banking space, PNB, Kotak Mahindra, IndusInd Bank, Canara Bank and Bank of Baroda made money for traders. The BSE bankex was up 1%.


The BSE auto index was up 0.91%. Stocks like Ashok Leyland, Tata Motors, M&M, Bharat Forge and Maruti Suzuki zoomed in the range of 1-3%.


Turnover: The total turnover for the day was Rs 78391.72 crore. BSE Cash turnover-Rs 2991.67 crore, NSE Cash turnover-Rs 9952.79 crore, NSE F&O turnover-Rs 65,447.26 crore

Gold: India gold futures nudged higher on Monday afternoon in step with overseas markets, and demand in local spot market improved as jewellers raised purchases, dealers said.
