A spike in global crude prices due to social unrest in West Asia & North Africa has compounded India's macro problems of a large triple deficit and high inflation.

Here are experts equity calls for the day on how the markets are expected to trade:

Sanjeev Prasad, Kotak Institutional Equities: A spike in global crude prices due to social unrest in West Asia & North Africa has compounded India's macro problems of a large triple deficit and high inflation. With no clarity on the way and timing of the resolution of the situation in the region, it is difficult to build a strong case for India. In the circumstances, the best positioning for a portfolio is to focus on sectors like metals and technology.

Jonathan Garner, Morgan Stanley: Events in the West Asian region lead us to reiterate our top-down cautious view on Asia & EM equities. With Brent prices trading around USD 116 levels, we are more concerned than before on the likely challenge to policymakers from rising inflation and earnings growth prospects, particularly in countries which are large net oil importers.
