Home-bred handset maker Lava International’s subsidiary SOJO Manufacturing Services (AP) Private Limited has received approval for IT hardware under the production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme.
SOJO will manufacture Consumer Electronic Durables such as smartphones, feature phones, accessories, tablets, laptops, and other IT hardware for Lava International and other Indian and global brands.
"We are thrilled to be part of the PLI scheme, and this approval validates our dedication to fostering domestic production in the IT hardware segment. The support from the government through PLI will undoubtedly propel Lava towards greater heights in the industry,” Dr Rishi Bhatnagar, president of Lava International, said in a statement.
The company said that SOJO will play a pivotal role in the global competitiveness of the Indian IT hardware sector. “The approval of SOJO's PLI application reflects its commitment to contributing to the growth of the domestic mobile industry and aligns with the broader vision of 'Make in India for the World'," it said.
The PLI 2.0 scheme, with a total budget outlay of Rs 17,000 crore, aims to boost employment and create a competitive environment for the production of IT hardware in India.
