Wipro appoints Sandeep Dhar global head of GCC practice

Information technology major Wipro has appointed Sandeep Dhar as the global head of its global capability center (GCC) practice.

"Sandeep brings over 30 years of experience in the GCC ecosystem and consulting, having been instrumental in setting up and scaling some of the well-known GCCs in his career," the company said in a release on May 9.

The appointment assumes significance as the Bengaluru-based company's peers have made room for similar roles. On April 1, Cognizant announced that Sailaja Josyula has been appointed the new global head of its GCC service line.

Moneycontrol has reported that IT companies are increasingly establishing dedicated GCC Strategic Business Units (SBUs) to capitalise on the surge in demand.

As MD, he led the transformation of Tesco and Goldman Sachs Consumer Bank GCCs into strategic centres of innovation and growth.

In his senior leadership responsibilities across industries, Dhar has successfully managed P&Ls, driven digital transformation initiatives, and implemented advanced engineering practices.Dhar will report to Sanjeev Jain, Wipro’s Chief Operating Officer.

“Wipro has been a trusted partner to GCCs for over two decades,” Jain was quoted as saying in the release. "His vast experience in leading and transforming GCCs, combined with Wipro's robust capabilities and comprehensive suite of services for GCCs, will enable us to deliver superior business value to clients.”

Dhar said Wipro is ideally positioned to be the strategic partner of choice for GCCs, offering services that align with their objectives to establish, scale, transform, or exit.

Wipro's GCC services cover the entire lifecycle, from portfolio strategy to setup and operation. This ensures clients receive solutions that align with their strategic goals, offering tailored approaches for efficiency, transformation, innovation, and enhanced performance.

During a media briefing on October 17, 2024, Wipro's Chief Executive Officer Srinivas Pallia said it is the company's strategy to partner with GCCs. "We have the talent and we can groom the talent, and GCCs and we can partner and bring them to execute for us,” Pallia said.

He also added that the partnership was a “win-win” situation, contrary to what many believed.
