TCS Q1 results: Headcount up 5,090 in second straight quarterly increase

India’s largest IT services firm has reported a 6% rise in net profit at Rs 12,760 crore

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) headcount increased by 5,090 employees on a net basis in the first quarter of the fiscal.

TCS now employs 6,13,069 people, India’s largest IT services company  said on July 10, sharing the numbers for the first quarter.

“Talent Development is core to TCS. In this quarter, our associates invested 15 million hours in building expertise in emerging technologies, enabling them to lead the transformation journey for our customers. It is gratifying to note that TCS now has 114,000 people with higher-order AI skills," chief human resources officer Milind Lakkad said in the release.

Attrition for the quarter marginally rose by 50 bps to 13.8 percent, from the previous quarter’s 13.3 percent.

The Mumbai-headquartered firm's net profit rose 6 percent year-on-year to Rs 12,760 crore. The earnings surpassed Street expectations. A Bloomberg poll of analysts pegged TCS' June net profit growth at 1.9 percent to Rs 12,263 crore.

The TCS stock ended flat at Rs 3,382 on the National Stock Exchange. The June numbers were announced after the market hours.
