India’s largest software exporter Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is integrating all its existing teams and capabilities in artificial intelligence (AI) to create a new AI and Services Transformation unit, the company said in an internal memo to employees on August 26.
TCS veteran Amit Kapur has been appointed to lead this unit globally as Chief Al and Services Transformation Officer, effective September 1, and will report to Aarthi Subramanian, Executive Director - President & Chief Operating Officer, TCS.
Kapur currently heads TCS’ business in UK and Ireland, the company’s second largest region. He has been with TCS for over 26 years and has held leadership roles across various geographies.
“This unit will integrate all our existing teams and capabilities in Al and work closely with all other horizontal service units, as well as industry business groups, to scale our impact in this area and enable benefit realization at scale for our clients,” Subramanian said in the internal note, a copy of which was seen by Moneycontrol.
She added, “Our current Al and Data unit will become a part of this new organization. We will also reimagine our investments in our TCS Pace Ports worldwide to bring real world experiences and possibilities of Al closer to our customers.”
TCS declined to comment on the queries sent by Moneycontrol at the time of publishing.
With the unveiling of this new business unit, TCS plans to renew its service propositions, deepen Al domain solutions, create new partnership ecosystems, and innovate in delivery of Al-powered integrated technology services across operations, engineering, and modernization, the note highlighted.
The IT services behemoth is in the midst of turning around its business strategy to align with the changing contours of the larger IT industry in the wake of the AI boom.
Last month, TCS CEO and MD K Krithivasan had told Moneycontrol in an interview that the company will be letting go of 2 percent of its workforce, or roughly 12,200 employees, over the next year, in a bid to become more agile and future-ready amid rapid disruptions in technology.
This move is set to mostly impact mid- and senior-level employees.
