IndiGo on May 28 announced that it has appointed Vikram Singh Mehta as the Chairman of its board. Mehta will succeed Venkataramani Sumantran who stepped down from the post after the end of his five-year term as a board member.

Vikram Singh Mehta was previously the Chairman of the Shell Group of Companies in India and the Chief Executive Officer of Shell Markets and Shell Chemicals, Egypt. He has also served on the boards of Colgate Palmolive (India) Limited, Mahindra & Mahindra Limited, and Larsen & Toubro. He has been a member of InterGlobe Aviation, the parent organization of IndiGo, since May 2022.

Before joining the corporate sector, Mehta served two years as an IAS officer. He was recognised as the ‘Businessman of the Year’ by Asia House in 2010, and was named the ‘Best Independent Director’ in India by Asia Centre for Corporate Governance and Sustainability in 2016. Mehta holds two master’s degrees- one in politics and economics from Oxford University, and the other in Energy Economics from Tufts University.

IndiGo shares ended the session in the green with marginal gains. The stock closed 0.20 percent higher at Rs 5,324 apiece.

Interglobe Aviation Ltd, which runs low-cost airline IndiGo, on May 21 reported a profit of Rs 3,067.5 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2025, flying into its second straight quarter in green, as strong domestic travel demand continued across India.
