Hiring activity in India rose 41 percent year-on-year (YoY) in January amid the third wave, led by IT, according to Naukri JobSpeak report.
Hiring saw 80 percent growth in IT, followed by retail at 52 percent and telecom at 48 percent in January. Other sectors like banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI), education, and pharma too saw a rise in hiring trends.
“The year 2022 has started on a resilient note with hiring sentiment improving across all sectors and cities, despite the third wave. While we saw spurts of growth during 2021, the first month of this year has kicked off with a bang as industries across India are gearing up for growth and getting past the previous year,” said Pawan Goyal, chief business officer, Naukri.com.
Metros trump Tier-II cities
The hiring boom in the IT and BFSI sectors has enabled metro cities to outperform Tier-II towns. Indian IT hubs Bengaluru (79 percent), Hyderabad (66 percent), and Pune (63 percent) recorded the highest growth in January.
Other metro cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and Delhi/NCR also witnessed a spike. Among the non-metros, Ahmedabad (50 percent) witnessed the highest growth in January followed by Coimbatore (43 percent) and Kochi (27 percent).
Senior professionals in demand again
Recruitment of professionals across all experience levels was positive. The demand for seniors with eight to ten years experience grew the most at 48 percent. Demand was also high for professionals in the zero to three years (37 percent) and four to seven years (42 percent) brackets.
