Adani Total Gas Ltd on Monday reported a 19 percent decline in its consolidated net profit to Rs 142.38 crore for the third quarter ended on December 31, 2024 amid higher gas purchase costs following lower supply from the government.
The Adani Group company had earned a net profit of Rs 176.64 in the October-December quarter of the previous year. Sequentially, it was a decline of 23.28 percent from Rs 185.60 crore from the December quarter of the previous year.
The revenue from operations of Adani Total, however, increased 12.61 percent to Rs 1,400.88 crore in the third quarter of the current fiscal from Rs 1,244 crore in the year-ago period, the company said in a regulatory filing. It was an increase of 6.26 percent sequentially from Rs 1.318.37 crore.
The government reduced cheaper gas supplies to city gas distributors like Adani Total Gas in October and November, citing lower production, but later restored them in January.
To ensure uninterrupted supply of compressed natural gas (CNG) to end consumers, the company had to cover the shortfall with costlier purchases of natural gas, Adani Total Gas stated in a release. The cost of procuring natural gas increased 20 percent year-on-year, according to Adani Total Gas.
According to Reuters report, CNG sales, which make up over half of the gas distributor's total sales volume, rose 19 percent during the quarter, while sales volume in the piped natural gas (PNG) segment grew by 8 percent. The rise in natural gas supplies from the government starting January is expected to positively impact the fourth quarter, the company added.
