Zee Media Corporation Limited (ZMCL) on Monday announced plans to foray into English news broadcasting. The company, part of the Essel Group, has appointed Rohit Gandhi as Editor-in-Chief of English news broadcast and related content with effect from August 17, ZMCL said in a statement. Gandhi will be heading the operations of all initiatives in this space and report to Zee Entertainment MD & CEO Punit Goenka, it added.

Goenka said: "Venturing into the English news space allows us to extend our presence in the overall news genre across geographies and even in the international arena. We want to launch a news network for global audiences with an Indian point-of-view." Gandhi has over 23 years of experience and has worked with various news organisations, including CBC, CNN, BCTV & Global TV and NDTV, the company said. ZMCL (formerly known as Zee News) is a network of 10 channels, including two national channels Zee News and Zee Business.

It has regional news channels such as Zee 24 Taas, Zee Sangam, Zee Madhya Pradesh Chhattisgarh, Zee Marudhara (Rajasthan), Zee Punjab Haryana Himachal and Zee Kalinga (Odisha).
