SpiceJet is set to add up to 100 extra daily flights to its winter schedule as the aviation market recovers from the IndiGo-led disruptions that saw massive cancellations and delays across the country.
The low-cost airline said it has witnessed “strong and growing” demand across key routes and it is ramping up operations to ensure adequate capacity in the country.
“As part of this effort, we plan to introduce up to 100 additional daily flights during the current winter schedule, subject to regulatory approvals,” SpiceJet said in a statement.
The stock of the company was trading 1.08 percent higher at Rs 34.68 on BSE at 10:51 am on December 10.
The development comes as its rival IndiGo, which has a market share of over 60 percent, failed to implement Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) norms, resulting in Centre cutting the latter's winter flights schedule by 10 percent on December 9. The aviation ministry said the reduction in IndiGo's flights will help the crisis-hit airline stabilise its operations.

“In the past two months, we have inducted 17 aircraft into active operations through a mix of damp-leased aircraft and the return of our own aircraft to service,” the statement said.
“This enhanced fleet availability gives us the operational flexibility to deploy incremental capacity on high-demand routes and improve overall network resilience.”
The airline said it is focusing on adding more aircraft and maximise utilisation to boost connectivity.
