Auto major Mahindra & Mahindra today reported 7.18 percent decline in total sales at 35,175 units in August.
Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) had sold 37,897 units in the same month last year, the company said in a statement. M&M's domestic sales went down by 5.72 percent to 33,145 units last month as against 35,159 units a year earlier. Sales of passenger vehicles, including Scorpio, XUV 500, Xylo, Bolero and Verito, stood at 14,140 units compared with 15,821 units in August 2013, down 10.62 percent.
Four-wheel commercial vehicle sales declined by 5.41 percent to 12,975 units in August 2014 as against 13,718 units in the year-ago month, it said. Exports went down by 25.85 per cent to 2,030 units from 2,738 units in the same period a year earlier. Commenting on the numbers, M&M Chief Executive Automotive Division and International Operations (AFS), Pravin Shah said: "In spite of our overall sales remaining flat in August, we continue to be optimistic due to the industry's enhanced business confidence which is reflected by the manufacturing sector showing signs of revival."
"The automotive industry, including us, is hopeful of a better demand leading up to the ensuing festival season," he added.
