T-Mobile has named its current Chief Operating Officer (COO), Srini Gopalan, as the next Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective November 1. He will succeed Mike Sievert, who has been elevated as vice chairman after steering the company since April 2020.

Sievert, who took charge as CEO in April 2020, will move to the newly created position of vice chairman and advise on long-term strategy, innovation and talent development. T-Mobile shares had outperformed AT&T and Verizon's during his tenure.

"Srini Gopalan brings a wealth of experience and is a very impressive leader, and they've handled this transition exceptionally well. I don't expect there to be any fall-off at all in T-Mobile's performance," MoffettNathanson analyst Craig Moffett said.

"Gopalan, who joined T-Mobile in March 2025, brings with him a wealth of global leadership experience across technology and telecom," T-Mobile said in a statement. Before taking over as COO, he served on T-Mobile’s board of directors and led Deutsche Telekom’s Germany business, where he doubled growth, expanded fiber to millions of homes, and secured record mobile market share. Earlier, as a board member overseeing DT’s European operations, he transformed the business into one of the region’s fastest-growing telecom players with industry-leading customer satisfaction.

Srini Gopalan's career spans senior roles at Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Capital One and Deutsche Telekom, where he was instrumental in driving operational excellence, digital transformation and consumer-focused strategies. At Airtel and Vodafone, he developed growth frameworks in highly competitive markets, leveraging data and digital solutions to enhance consumer experience.

Born in India, Srini Gopalan studied business administration at St. Stephen’s College in New Delhi and completing his MBA from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad. Widely regarded for his operational depth and transformative vision, he has been described as a leader who combines business acumen with customer-centric innovation.
