Nokia Siemens, a 50:50 joint venture between mobile phone maker Nokia and engineering giant Siemens AG, is said to be exploring options to sell a controlling stake in the firm.
According to latest media reports, growing losses and a diminishing customer base has forced the telecom-equipment provider to consider a controlling stake sale in the four-year-old joint venture.
The JV officially ends in 2013 and the stake itself could be worth about USD 2 billion. So then, next question, who could be the potential buyer? Well, names of a few PE firms and even other telecom-gear makers, such as Alcatel-Lucent and Samsung Electronics are doing the rounds, though the latter option is reportedly unlikely.
