Vodafone Essar and Idea Cellular have raised prepaid call tariffs in some regions by about 20%, three sources with knowledge of the matter said on Thursday.

Market leader Bharti Airtel last week increased prepaid call prices in some zones by about 20% in what was the first such increase by an Indian company in at least two years, and rivals were expected to follow suit.

Vodafone Essar, controlled by Vodafone, is India's third-biggest mobile carrier by subscribers, while Idea is ranked fourth.

Both companies declined comment.
