IT parks to come up in Puducherry, Karaikal

Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy announced that the government had decided to set up one information technology park each in Puducherry and Karaikal regions.

This would ensure openings for the graduates passing out of the engineering colleges and also to attract entrepreneurs and investors in industrial development of Puducherry, he said winding up debate on the budget for the 2011-2012.

He said the plan outlay for the current fiscal was approved by the Planning Commission with an allocation of Rs 2750 crores. There was an increase by Rs 250 crores in allocation over the previous year`s approval, he said.

He said Planning Commission had noted that only 64% of the allocation made during 2010-2011 was utilised in the union territory.

He said the poor families would be sanctioned Rs 4 lakh as subsidy for conversion of a hut into concrete structure and all along only Rs 2 lakhs was available as subsidy and this had been doubled now.

He said he had requested the Prime Minister, the UPA chairperson, Union Home and Finance Ministers to write off the loans and interest due from Puducherry government over the years to the Centre.

He said he had also requested the Centre to sanction special fund of Rs 3645 crores apart from plan outlay to Puducherry to enable it to carry out its various projects.

Rangasamy announced that the government would sanction Rs 2.25 lakh to each of the students joining medical courses under government quota in private colleges here as educational assistance against Rs 1.75 lakhs announced earlier.

After Chief Minister`s reply the Speaker V Sabapathy adjourned the House till September 2.
