The Cairn-Vedanta deal continues to hover under a cloud after the Oil Ministry approached the Cabinet again for a fresh approval on the deal. The Cabinet is set to meet on Tuesday to discuss the issues that are plaguing the deal.

The Home Ministry has been pointing to the alleged global and domestic "transgressions" by the Vedanta group. Some of the wrongdoings include instances of human rights violations, defaulting of payments and environmental concerns.

Following the serious issues raised by the Home Ministry, officials in the Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry said the deal is likely to be put up before the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) for a review in light of these facts brought out in the official note.
