The Association of Power Producers (APP), a trade body that represents 90% of private power companies has appealed against levying customs and import duty on power equipment.

In a letter to the finance ministry and the power ministry, APP has said that levying duty would further aggravate cost pressures for companies and have an adverse impact on capacity addition.

The appeal comes ahead of an inter-ministerial meet to consider levying 19% duty on importing power equipment.
