Vodafone India reduces 2G data charges by 80%

The new rates will currently be applicable in Karnataka, west Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh circles.

Vodafone India is slashing 2G data charges by 80 percent, it said on Tuesday, adding that the new rates will be rolled out across India in phases.

The new rates will currently be applicable in Karnataka, west Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh circles.

Meanwhile, the telecom regulator, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Monday said it would allow carriers to offer free nationwide mobile roaming to subscribers for a fixed fee from July 1, in a partial relief to operators, some of whom had opposed a proposal to completely abolish roaming charges. This move by the regulator has faced a lot of flak from Anil Ambani led-Reliance Communications.
