IT dept seeks legal opinion on Vodafone tax issue

The income tax department has sought the opinion of the country's top law officers on the manner in which it should proceed against Vodafone on the tax issue.

The income tax department has sought the opinion of the country's top law officers on the manner in which it should proceed against Vodafone on the tax issue.

Sources have told CNBC-TV18 that the IT department's reference has sought clarity on several questions including whether it can proceed against Hutchison International and Vodafone together. They are also mulling about the possible recovery procedure including a fresh demand notice.
