German auto biggie Daimler AG has unveiled its new truck brand for India, as it attempts to make large inroads in the Indian market expected to double by 2020, reports The Wall Street Journal.
According to WSJ, the BharatBenz brand is its fifth launch globally and will offer trucks weighing six to 49 tonne and will be produced at a factory at Oragadam in Chennai. The plant will have an initial production capacity of 36,000 vehicles a year.
"We would have liked to come to the country earlier but there was a slowdown. We are very clear that we want to take a leadership position in India. We have chosen a very promising product for this market," Daimler Chairman Dieter Zetsche told reporters.
