LPG cylinder rate today March 18: With the third oil tanker, 'Jag Ladki', docking at Gujarat's Mundra Port amid tensions in the Middle East, India is aiming to ease LPG supply pressure.
While the government maintains that there is no shortage of LPG, LNG, and PNG in the country, the panic buying trend and long wait for LPG cylinders persist.

A report by Moneycontrol indicates that India will continue to require around 29-34 LPG tankers each month to meet domestic demand, even after a significant boost in cooking gas production. This estimate is based on an assumed carrying capacity of 46,000 tonnes per vessel.
The government projects that monthly LPG demand could rise to 2.9 million tonnes by FY27.
However, even with a 30% increase in domestic output, a shortfall of more than 1.4 million tonnes per month is expected, necessitating imports of roughly 1.56 million tonnes.
Under a more optimistic scenario of a 50% production increase, import requirements would still exceed 1.34 million tonnes, underscoring a continued structural reliance on foreign supplies.
India's dependence on LPG imports has remained high over the years, as local production has not kept pace with steadily growing consumption for more than two decades.
