Gold prices declined on June 23, beating expectations of a sharp rise as escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East temporarily boosts its safe haven appeal. Gold's August contracts on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) opened at Rs 99,100 per 10 grams today.

"Over the weekend, the US conducted airstrikes on nuclear facilities in Iran, raising fears of further escalation in the region. However, in the morning session, gold is trading lower by ~0.4% as markets await Iran’s response. We expect continued volatility in gold prices amid rising geopolitical risks and a data-heavy week from the US," said Axis Securities.
