Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised BJP MP Tejasvi Surya for becoming the first Parliamentarian to compete in the Ironman 70.3 Goa triathlon, which includes a 1.9 km swim, 90 km bike ride, and 21.1 km run.
"Commendable feat!" Modi remarked on social media platform X, expressing confidence that Surya's achievement would inspire more young people to engage in fitness activities.
Surya, 33, completed the challenging triathlon in 8 hours, 27 minutes, and 32 seconds. He dedicated his accomplishment to India's athletes, acknowledging their dedication and hard work. He emphasized that the Ironman 70.3 event, which draws competitors from over 50 countries, is a true test of endurance.
After months of training, Surya expressed his excitement at finishing the race. He credited Modi's Fit India initiative for motivating him to pursue this challenge, stating, “As a young nation with big ambitions, we must prioritize our physical fitness.” He believes that striving for fitness fosters discipline and confidence, which are crucial for success in any field.
Encouraging young Indians to focus on their fitness, Surya remarked, “This journey has pushed my boundaries. I urge everyone, especially the youth, to set fitness goals and embrace the positive changes that follow.” His participation in the Ironman challenge aligns with the government's Fit India movement, which aims to inspire the younger generation to lead active and healthy lifestyles.
The FIT India Movement was launched by Prime Minister Modi on August 29, 2019, to make fitness a fundamental part of everyday life, promoting behavioral changes toward a more active lifestyle.
